Families get shopping spree at Colonies Crossroads for Christmas
By Sandra Emerson, Staff Writer

UPLAND - Athletes, police officers and even Santa Claus spent time with children and their families Monday morning at the Colonies Holiday Miracles Event at Colonies Crossroads shopping center.

The children and families received $200 for a shopping spree, full dinners and other gifts.

Families in attendance were from the West End YMCA, House of Ruth, Hope Through Housing Foundation, Children's Hope, Pacific Lifeline, Foothill Family Shelter, Children's Fund and OPARC.

Former Dodgers manager and Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda was among several notables who visited the families and signed autographs. NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson and former NFL running backs Marshall Faulk and Christian Okoye also attended.

More than 200 children from 10 charities were able to "shop with a cop" in Colonies stores.

Upland police officers and San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies helped the children pick out their gifts.
