Colonies Holiday Miracles Donates Car, Provides Gifts for Hundreds of Children
Upland, CA, Dec. 9, 2017 – The tenth anniversary of Colonies Holiday Miracles created memories for hundreds of underprivileged children as well as gave a special gift to a single mother and her children.
Upland resident Arlene Galdamez, with an eight-year-old boy and three-year-old girl, lost her husband in 2015 to illness. With a failing car and long commute to her healthcare job, she was desperate for reliable transportation. As part of the festivities, she received a 2017 Chevrolet Spark, donated by Colonies Partners LP, Mark Christopher Auto Center and Larson O’Brien LLP.
“I can’t believe it,” she said. “This is amazing and will help so much.”
The donation was a part of an annual holiday event that helps struggling Inland Empire families. Local businesses also funded shopping sprees for more than 200 children at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kohl’s and Target.
“Over the past ten years as part of the Colonies Holiday Miracles event, local business owners have helped thousands of children and their financially struggling families celebrate the holidays with a shopping spree. With the generosity of the Leggio family and the Larson O’Brien law firm, we were also able to help the Galdamez family,” said Jeff Burum, founder of the event and co-managing partner of Colonies Partners.
“Colonies Holiday Miracles is one of my family’s favorite events because it creates a special holiday memory for children, and now we can help even more by donating a car to a worthy family,” said Chris Leggio, President of Mark Christopher Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC and Mountain View Chevrolet.
“Our firm believes in investing in our communities, and this event truly makes a difference for folks struggling to provide for their families,” said Stephen Larson, partner at Larson O’Brien LLP.
Major sponsors also include Pacific Development Group, Crebs Family Foundation, Frontier Communities, Kohl’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, Albertsons, In-N-Out Burger and Home Depot. Hall of famers Marshall Faulk and Tommy Lasorda attended, talking with families and taking photos with the kids.
The children were referred by Foothill Family Shelter, Hope Through Housing, OPARC, Children’s Fund, Children’s Hope, House of Ruth, Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino, Pacific Lifeline, Haynes Family of Programs, Eagle’s Wings, and the Scheu Family YMCA of Upland.
Families also received a frozen turkey with all of the fixings to take home. Local service organizations, High School Key Clubs, members of the Upland police and fire departments, county fire and other safety personnel volunteered at the event. It is the largest day of giving of its kind in the region.
