The Colonies Holiday Miracles is an annual event for children selected based on need and referred by Hope Through Housing, House of Ruth, OPARC, Children’s Fund, Children’s Hope, House of Ruth, Upland Housing Authority, Pacific Lifeline, and Foothill Family Shelter. Since 2007, Holiday Miracles has served more than 1,500 underprivileged children. It continues to grow and has become one of the largest programs of its kind in the Inland Empire.
Local tenants, both large and small, contribute to help, and major sponsors this year include Colonies Partners, Pacific Development Group, Kohl’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, Albertsons and Mountain View Chevrolet in Upland
Each receives a gift card donated by Colonies Partners and Diversified Pacific, and are paired with a volunteer to shop at selected major stores within Colonies Crossroads shopping center.
Before the shopping sprees, the children, their parents and volunteers get to see and talk to major celebrities. Some of the past starts who attended were Los Angeles sports Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson, Marshall Faulk, James Worthy and Tommy Lasorda.
Giving back to the Inland Empire is important to Jeff Burum, co-managing partner of development companies Colonies Partners and Diversified Pacific, as well as cofounder of National CORE, an acclaimed affordable housing nonprofit.
Aside from founding the annual Colonies Holiday Miracles event, he and his companies have given millions to various charities across the Inland Empire. More than two dozen charities throughout Southern California have benefited from his gifts in the past, including scholarship funds and an education program at his alma mater Claremont McKenna College.
Mr. Burum’s passion for affordable housing prompted him in 1991 to cofound National CORE. He continues to pursue a vision of projects that provide quality affordable housing and community centers where residents could obtain onsite job training, day care and other social services.
